YOUNG MUSICIANS IN EVERY NOOK AND CRANNY

OF

CAIRNGORMS   NATIONAL PARK

THIS SUMMER

This July sees an exciting new initiative, as seven young traditional musicians, perform in every corner of the Cairngorms   National Park . From Glenmore, to the head of Glenesk, the tour covers all parts of the park.

‘From the energy and tunes played when these musicians first met, they are going to  provide the audience with a fantastic  evening’ says Caroline Reagh, Co-ordinator for the tour.

The idea came from Feisean nan Gaidheal, who oversee Ceilidh Trails in other parts of Scotland . Through discussion with the National Park and Feis Spe the idea gathered momentum. The result is providing young people a professional  opportunity to perform for two weeks in the summer and one in the winter for local audiences and visitors alike.

‘We are really delighted to have a Ceilidh Trail in the Cairngorms, as it provides a great chance for young people and audience to have a rich experience of traditional music and is also encouraging younger musicians from the park to participate in future years’ said Elspeth McGillvray, Chair of Feis Spe.

The musicians this year are from throughout the Highlands from Lochgilpead to Inverurie. They all spend a week working together in Plockton in July and are then on their music trail throughout the park. You will hear keyboard, accordion, whistle, fiddle, clarsach, drums, pipes, saxophone, guitar, song and step dance all played by these hugely talented 16-18 year olds.  Three of the musicians are currently students at the National Centre of Excellence in Traditional Music at Plockton   High School .

‘ We are going to be the coolest Ceilidh Trail band’ said one of the musicians.

Be ready to rock in your seats!
